Trifles and Something Unspoken Set and Prop Design

Set design for Trifles by Susan Glaspell. Presented in the Lehigh University Black Box Theater in conjunction with Something Unspoken by Tennessee Williams. Design direction for Trifles was to make it feel “very cold”. Items used in the design include a table and door which were painted with the intention of creating a worn, faded feeling, and other props found to accentuate that feeling. Design direction for Something Unspoken was for the set to feel “expensive”. The focus of the design is the table on which a number of items can be found. Direction was for one of the characters to remain seated for the duration of the piece. Props, including a napkin, a tea set, telephone, pamphlet, and book were provided for the actor who would need to limit her range to whatever she could reach from her seat to use as ways of interacting with the set while not being able to move around the set.
